The next stage of the expansion of the Żuławy Loop is started

Date added: 2017-12-18, Time12:06:17

303 km of an unforgettable adventure that can be experienced by canoe, yacht, motorboat or houseboat - the Żuławy Loop, one of the region's major attractions, is advertised in such an encouraging way. The self-government of the Pomorskie Voivodeship under Measure 8.4 Support for the attractiveness of natural heritage assets of the Regional Operational Programme of the Pomorskie Voivodeship for the years 2014-2020 will spend PLN 17.2 million for its further development.

This project is a strategic project for the development of tourism of the voivodeship. The aim is to supplement the network ports and marinas in the area.

The Management Board of the Pomeranian Voivodeship chose to fund the projects that make up strategic undertakings: Pomeranian Canoeing Routesand Development of the water tourism offer in the area of the Żuławy Loop and the Bay of Gdansk.

New facilities will be built, including the extension of the marina in Błotnik and Wiślinka. Starting a new shipping route on the Tuga River will be a great attraction for tourists.

As a result of the expansion of the existing marina in Błotnik, nearly 50 new berths will be built.  There will be an extension of three piers to the next modules of floating piers, a yard will be paved for wintering yachts and development of the marina area in order to start further services, including a water tram. On the other hand, on the Wiślinka River, there will be an inflow channel to the facility, an escarpment wharf (erratic) and a berth for 32 vessels along with its equipment. Also pre-treatment works will be carried out in the water reservoir of the watchtower and at the entrance to the canal. The investment will also cover the reconstruction of the road system together with the construction of the retaining wall, parking lot, fencing, rainwater drainage and lighting of the facility. In turn, a new marina will be built in Korzeniewo, which will enable safe parting on the Vistula River between Grudziądz and Biała Góra.

Starting a new shipping route on the Tuga River will be an attraction for tourists (the river that flows into the Szkarpawa River). For this reason, tourists will be able to sail on 12-kilometre section on yachts or a hauseboat to Nowy Dwór Gdański. By 2021, 3 bridges will have been reconstructed, i.e. restoring their deception (Tujsk) and turnover (Rybina) functions, while for the third bridge - lifting the span of the facility (Żelichowo). In addition, as a part of the Tuga River revitalization, a marina will be built in Nowy Dwór Gdański.

The Żuławy Loop also involves canoeing routes and their infrastructure, which in many places can be a convenient place for mooring larger units. On the Tuga, Nogat, Szkarpawa, Martwa Wisła, Motława (Gdańsk) Rivers and at the mouth of the Wierzyca River to the Vistula River, 23 canoeing marinas will be built. These are locations in Nowy Dwór Gdański (2), Żelichów, Stobec, Tujsk, Pogorzewska villages, Malbork (2), Janówce, Ząbrowo, Kępki, Drewnica, Rybina, Chełmek Osada, Osłonce, Błotnik, Trzcinisko, Sobieszów, Górki Zachodnie, and Gdańsk (2) and next to the castle in Gniew. Most of the marinas will be equipped, inter alia with briefs for launching canoes, piers and landscape architecture (bunkers, sheds, benches, fencing, rubbish bins, hearth, canoe dryers, information and promotion boards, portable sanitary protector, bicycle racks, solar lamps). In addition, footpaths will be made from the marina to the developed area, enabling safe crossing of the area for tourists with canoes, including entry and descent to a high flood bank, and media (water and electricity) will be supplied. The whole investment activities will have been carried out by 2019.

The implementation of the tourism product campaign of the Żuławy Loop and Pomeranian Canoeing Routes in 2019-2020 will be an important element of the popularization of the Vistula delta routes.

It is worth mentioning that the Żuławy Loop is an attractive tourist and nature waterway with a length of 303 km, connecting water routes of the Vistula, Martwa Wisła, Szkarpawa, Wisła Królewiecka, Nogat, Wisła Śmiała, Wielka Święta - Tuga, Motława Rivers, the Jagielloński Canal, the Elbląg River and the Pasłęka River, as well as the waters of the Vistula Lagoon. It is part of the international waterway E70 running from the Netherlands through Germany, Poland, Russia and Lithuania. It runs through numerous Natura 2000 sites. In 2016, 130,000 sailors took advantage of the Żuławy Loop routes.
