Radio Gdańsk on a cruise of the Żuławy Loop
Date added: 2018-05-29, Time08:45:36
There are
supposed to be storms, hail and strong wind but it doesn’t scare them at all. In
a time-honoured month-of-May tradition, the journalists of Radio Gdańsk set out
on a cruise of the Żuławy Loop (Pętla Żuławska). Two journalist teams will be
discovering little-known Pomeranian beauty spots, reporting at the same time from
their stay amidst the Żuławy attractions. To begin
with, there is the Żuławki-Rybina section via the Szkarpawa. It is an excellent
opportunity to talk about the over 100-year-old Żuławy Access Railway (Żuławska
Kolej Dojazdowa) and the historic swing bridge over the Szkarpawa in Rybina. Day two is
the Rybina-Tujsk-Osłonka route. The bridges in Tujsk and Żelichowo have not
been raised in a long time, which makes it impossible to sail into this
beautiful town on the Tuga. It will become possible in 2021, as plans include
repairs and the construction of a marina. However, only canoes and low boats
can get there for the time being. Such a boat is owned by the dynamic Nowy Dwór
Gdański Club which pledged to help the journalists get there. Monday is
the day when the crew with microphones will set off from Osłonka to Elbląg. Along
the way is Nowakowska Island: a piece of land with an interesting history and
remarkable nature, continuously threatened with seawater intrusion. It can be
circumnavigated not only via the River Elbląg but also the Nogat, to its
estuary to the waters of the Lagoon. Day four is a trip from Elbląg on the
Nogat to Malbork. There the crew will talk about the town, the castle and
night-time sightseeing. This is also where the reporting crews will swap. The second
crew will begin its journey on Wednesday and will go from Malbork to Biała
Góra, which is the beginning of the Żuławy Lowland. Along the way is the Miłoradz
Municipality: a picture of pre- and post-WWII settlement, a restored old coach
house and, in nearby Mątowy, a sanctuary of Blessed Dorothy. Thursday is
a trip from Biała Góra via Tczew, to Błotnik. There, the Radio Gdańsk
journalists will report from a journey across the Walichnowska Valley,
stretching between Gniew and Tczew. A little-known place, of a typically
lowland character. Not everyone believes this place to be part of Żuławy,
although it features a pumping station and locks in Rybaki, and a smithy
building with arcades. Day seven
is a surprise. There are several ideas but no one really knows what will happen
and what will befall the radio crew. And this surprise will conclude the
week-long radio-themed cruise. EVERYTHING
LIVE ON AIR You can
hear the reports on Saturday after 9:05 in the Nie śpij, zwiedzaj z Radiem Gdańsk (Don’t sleep, go sightseeing
with Radio Gdańsk) show. More reports at ca. 12:15, and later after 16:30. On Sunday
after 10:00 in the Cafe niedziela w Radiu
Gdańsk (Café Sunday on Radio Gdańsk) show and between 17:00 and 19:00 during
Radio Gdańsk z boisk i stadionów
(Radio Gdańsk from football pitches and stadiums). From Monday
to Friday, the radio reporters will feature regularly at 8:20, 12:15, 17:10 and
18:10. And also, from time to time, during the news.
