On the board of the houseboats sailing through the Pętla Żuławska, Mieczysław Struk, Marshal of the Pomeranian Voivodship, summed up for the Radio Gdańsk journalists an implementation of the project for the Pętla Żuławska - the development of water tourism adopted by the resolution of the Pomeranian Voivodship Board from ten years ago.
Two crews - women and men for a week travelled through the planned routes, telling on Radio Gdańsk about the places they passed, impressions about beautiful landscapes and remarks about amenities for boaters.
On board a houseboat moored in the port of Suchacz - the female journalists team hosted Mieczysław Struk, the Marshal of the Pomeranian Voivodship, who presented the effects of the work related to the development of sailing infrastructure in the Vistula Delta and the Vistula Lagoon.
Ten years ago there were devastated marinas and tiny ports that took sailors. Today we are in a different place, you can use the slipway and many marinas have been built here. But there is still much to be done - said the Marshal.
On the project were already spent PLN 84,000,000, but this amount did not allow all needs to be met. Mieczysław Struk also stressed that in this type of undertakings the procedure for obtaining building permits for this type of objects is complicated due to environmental conditions. The separate budgets of local governments can also be a problem. Difficult choices to be made by municipalities or cities are often investment decisions: whether to meet residents' requirements or to support initiatives serving a narrow group of recipients, but raising the area's rank due to which they attract investors. The examples given by the Marshal were Wiślinka and Błotnik, where the newly established marina attracted the investor – there were built houseboats, providing jobs.
The interviewer Agnieszka Michajłow also asked about the agreement of four Voivodship regarding the sustainable development of the Lower Vistula region.
In response, Marshal Mieczysław Struk said "I look at such initiative with an open heart. After the political transformation in the governmental sphere, there was no interest in inland waters. A resort which deals with it was established and what will emerge from it will turn out to be. The agreement gives hope that they will be taken into account.”
