Regatta for the Cup of Three Marshals 2017

Date added: 2017-07-13, Time13:36:43

On 6-8 July 2017, the eighth edition of the International Regatta for the Cup of Three Marshals took place in the waters of the Kaliningrad Lagoon. This year, a record number of sailors took part in the regatta - about two hundred people on 53 yachts from Russia, Poland and Sweden.

The regattas were combined with the Days of the City of Kaliningrad. The units participating in the regatta were greeted with great solemnity - over 150,000 residents of the Kaliningrad District were waiting at the gates of the city. Parade of boats under the Oceanography museum, fireworks displays, and above all a good sailing atmosphere – that is what distinguishes this event from others.

The event was also attended by the Sopot yacht Alf, led by the Marshal of the Pomeranian Voivodship Mieczysław Struk. "It makes me proud that the participation of Polish sailors in regattas taking place in the Kaliningrad region is significant. Many sailors are already familiar with each other. Such events built good neighbourly relations on the regional level. In recent years, we have implemented many projects related to the development of sailing. It is important today to prepare and launch new projects that will focus on the development of infrastructure for sailing. "

In turn, Natalia Ishchenko, Deputy Governor of the Government of the Kaliningrad District, stressed the importance of the region's natural conditions for the development of sailing. "I'm glad that this year the regatta takes place in the waters of the Kaliningrad Lagoon. Sailing brings countries together, promotes a healthy lifestyle and development of water tourism, "said Natalia Ishchenko, who welcomed the participants and guests in Bałtyjsk on behalf of the head of the region - Anton Alikhanov.

The Marshal of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodship - Marek Gustaw Brzezin noted that both the regions of Poland and the Kaliningrad Region aim at developing cooperation in the field of tourism, economics and other priority areas.

Voivodship Marshals thanked the Government of the Kaliningrad District of the Russian Federation for inviting sailors and organizing the next edition of the regatta. Marshal Mieczysław Struk thanking for organizing the event at a high level, he noted: "It is very important to continue the regatta. We invite Russian sailors to participate in next year's regatta, which will take place in the waters of the Vistula Lagoon to Krynica Morska. The Marshal also announced his readiness to implement joint infrastructural projects and develop sailing.

"International Regatta for the Cup of Three Marshals allows, among others development of sailing, tourism and good neighbourly relations. The evidence for this may be the growing interest in this event from the sailors and inhabitants of the region. However, you cannot rest on your laurels. "- said Anton Alihanov, Governor of the Kaliningrad region and he expressed his readiness for further constructive cooperation with the Polish side.

The official closing ceremony of the eighth Regatta for the Cup of Three Marshals took place on July 8, 2017 during the solemn celebration of the Days of Kaliningrad. The award ceremony was attended by the Governor of the Kaliningrad District Anton Alihanov, Marshal of the Pomeranian Voivodship Mieczysław Struk and Director of the Office of the Regional Marshal's Office of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodship Grażyna Kluge.

Summing up the successful regatta, Pomeranian Marshall Mieczysław Struk said "I would especially like to thank the Border Guard of the Russian Federation from Bałtyjsk. Seeing the problems of the Polish yacht Four Winds, the Border Guard ship offered help and then shielded the unit from wind and wave. This enabled the yacht's captain to drop off the mast's failure and safely continue the trip to Gdańsk”.
