Date added: 2017-12-18, Time15:08:44

Construction and extension of ports, marinas and mooring bridges, infrastructure of canoe routes and new bicycle routes - will be created thanks to the projects that, by the decision of the Pomeranian Voivodeship Management Board, received funding from the Regional Operational Programme for the Pomeranian Voivodeship for 2014-2020.

On Monday, December 11th, 2017, the marshals Mieczysław Struk and Wiesław Byczkowski and a member of the Management Board of the Pomeranian Voivodeship Ryszard Świlski the agreements with the governors of the Pomeranian municipalities in the Jazz Hall of the Polish Baltic Philharmonic in Gdańsk, under which the projects will receive the EU funding.

The investments are a part of three strategic tourist projects of the self-government of the Pomeranian Voivodeship: “Pomeranian Canoeing Routes”, “Development of water tourism offer in the area of the Żuławy Loop and the Bay of Gdańsk” and “Pomeranian bicycle routes of the international importance R-10 and Wiślana Bicycle Route R-9”. The Marshal's Office of the Pomeranian Voivodeship coordinates the implementation of strategic undertakings and grants subsidies from the EU funds, and their substantive implementation and own contribution is on the side of Pomeranian municipalities. The total value of the agreements is more than 203 million, 129 million of which is the EU funding.

Thanks to the implementation of the projects, in the region of the Bay of Gdańsk and the Żuławy Loop attracting many tourists in the summer to actively spend free time, a modern sailing infrastructure will be created: marinas, bridges with gangways and fortifications, roads with parking spaces, hybrid lighting and monitoring. The new greenery will make the area more attractive, and the sanitary containers and landscape architecture will improve the comfort of tourists. The investments will enable the development of water routes and further development of water tourism in the area of the Lower Vistula River and the Vistula Lagoon. Sailing marinas will connect the resulting network of the Żuławy Loop with the ports of the Bay of Gdańsk. The wharfs and banks of the rivers will be used as tourist areas and places for organizing sport and recreational events and regional cultural events. This will allow for the development of, inter alia active water tourism (sailing, canoeing, rowing), motorboat tourism, houseboating, and professional water sports. These initiatives will allow the development of a network of marinas as a part of the national and international shipping routes system.

Starting a new shipping route on the Tuga River will be an attraction for tourists, by starting closed drawbridges. The total value of the projects is more than PLN 21 million. The EU support for the projects is more than PLN 16 million. These projects will be implemented by the following municipalities: Kosakowo, Jastarnia, Sopot, Kwidzyn, Cedry Wielkie, Pruszcz Gdański and Nowodworski Poviat.

Thanks to the financing of new projects under the Pomeranian Canoeing Routes, it will be possible to provide water routes for canoeists, provide them with security by expanding and improving the tourist infrastructure, especially canoe, as well as providing access to canoeing areas along the Pomeranian rivers. The routes will be comprehensively marked, new public tourist infrastructure facilities of regional or supra-regional importance will be created. The projects will be carried out by leading partners: the cities of Gdańsk and Kwidzyn as well as Pomeranian municipalities. A total of 66 partners will be supported by the EU funds, and all planned canoe investments will have been completed by 2019. The total value of the investments is PLN 50 million. The granted funding is more than PLN 42 million.

All activities of the project will significantly increase the accessibility of the cultural heritage and natural delta of the Vistula River and the Bay of Gdańsk to residents and tourists.
