Sailing trail marking

- Waterways, which are suitable for sailing, are called sailing trails. Their parameters provide necessary conditions for sailing. The following are determined: guaranteed width, depth, height of obstacles over trail limiting size of the flowing units. One of sailing measures is transit depth allowing maintaining 50 cm water layer between bottom (keel) of the unit and bed of the river.

- On the sailing trail sides are determined according to water flow, the right side is the bank on the right of the ship flowing down with the river current.

- The sailing trails are marked: the right side with rolling red buoys, the left side with green cone-shaped ones. Obstacles, which can be avoided on both sides, are determined with spherical buoys painted in horizontal green and red strips. On the bank there are information and warning signs, inter alia cross-shaped yellow signs indicating passing the river current toward the opposite bank. Red flags or board that resembles Austrian flag means closing of the sailing trail. Ferries, moving across the river with a rope, often have such a sign.

- Marine waters begin with the 11th km of the Martwa Vistula River and the Elblag River to the Vistula Lagoon. At sea applied marking is according to the "A" (IALA) system; it shows the left side of trail with red colour. Due to the fact that the trail (farwater) is marked towards from seas to entrance to the port, sides marking are consistent with the river marking. Water sports enthusiasts pay attention to isolated obstacles thanks to yellow and black buoys, their peak sign and distribution of strips mean geographical direction in which the obstacle is located (the cardinal system). The units engaged in recreational sailing may move on the inland trails and waters of the Vistula Lagoon only in daytime.
